The Best CBD Hand Sanitizer You Need To Try Now

CBD Hand Sanitizer

Although the pandemic crisis is no longer in full swing, it can still be impossible to hand sanitizers, depending on where you live and availability. It seems people are hoarding them right along with the toilet paper. Is it better to buy (if you can find it – I do not joke when I say this!) or make your own? Here, we will discuss the importance of sanitizers, which make an effective one, and give you two recipes to make your own – a regular and a CBD hand sanitizer.

What is Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer is a liquid or gel and as the word sanitizer implies, to make clean or disinfect germs on the hands. Alcohol-based, they are preferable to washing hands with soap and water for killing microorganisms in a health care setting; alcohol-based hand sanitizers with greater than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) is the preferred form of hand hygiene in this case.

If it is not a healthcare setting, washing hands with soap and water is still generally preferred.

When to Use One

Hand sanitizers should not take the place of washing your hands with soap and water for regular hygiene, and especially now, hands should be washed often and at least for 20 seconds.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers won’t kill all types of germs, such as parasites, noroviruses, Clostridioides difficile (a bacteria that causes life-threatening diarrhea and is usually a side effect of antibiotics), or chemicals. Hand washing, on the other hand, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and spread germs to others.

However, there may be occasions when soap and water are not available. Your next best recourse is a hand sanitizer, or you want added protection after washing.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been used in Europe since the 1980s and are on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of essential medicines.

To be effective, use enough sanitizer to cover the surface of the hands completely and rub your hands together until your hands feel dry. Sanitizers should not be used on dirty or greasy hands.

So let’s take a look at a couple of do-it-yourself recipes.

Recipe for Regular Sanitizer

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, 99%
  • 1/3 cup aloe Vera gel
  • 5 – 10 drops of Essential oils such as tea tree oil (you can also use clove, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, etc.)

Aloe Vera gel moisturizes and prevents dryness, while tree tea oil has been known to be used as an anti-inflammatory and to combat viruses and bacteria.

Equipment:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Wooden spoon
  • Funnel
  • Clean bottle(s) with a leak-proof top or screw top.

Instructions:

  • Using a measuring cup, add the 99% rubbing alcohol to a mixing bowl, followed by the aloe Vera gel.
  • Stir well.
  • Add the essential oil(s) to the alcohol and aloe Vera and mix it until combined.
  • Pour into clean bottles and label them. Keep out of reach of children

Recipe for CBD Hand Sanitizer

Why CBD in a hand sanitizer? CBD particles better penetrate the skin, are well known for their antibacterial properties, and kill bacteria. CBD contains Omega 3 – fatty acids (which aid in soothing) and vitamins A, C, and E.

Added to a sanitizer, aloe Vera gel, also moisturizes the hands and prevents drying caused by the alcohol.

CBD Hand Sanitizer Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, 99%
  • 1/3 cup aloe Vera gel
  • 10 drops of High-quality, THC-free CBD oil or tincture
  • 10 drops of Tea Tree essential oil

CBD Hand Sanitizer Equipment:

  • Bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Wooden spoon
  • Clean funnel
  • Clean bottle with a leak-proof top or screw top.

CBD Hand Sanitizer Instructions:

  • Using a measuring cup, add the 99% rubbing alcohol to a mixing bowl, followed by the aloe Vera gel.
  • Stir well.
  • Mix the CBD oil or tincture with the essential oil(s), and stir until combined.
  • Add the oil mixture to the alcohol and aloe vera mixture and combine it.
  • Pour into clean bottles and label them. Keep it out of reach of children.

Tip 1:

You can use ethanol instead, which is the alcohol you drink. Vodka is normally 40%, however, there are two vodkas with high alcohol content: a Polish vodka (Spirytus Rektyfikowany), which has a whopping content of 95%, and Balkan 176, which comes in at 88% (however, both might be very difficult to buy).

Tip 2:

Spray bottles can be used if you prefer.

Tip 3:

You might need to experiment with essential oils. If you are new to them, read the product description and information on the labels for risks and benefits. If you get rashes or allergy symptoms from pollen and weeds, you need to be careful as you could develop contact dermatitis, which can be very uncomfortable and painful. If in doubt, do an allergy test.

Final Thoughts

We stress here that washing your hands with soap and water, often, for at least 20 seconds, is the first choice for removing all germs from your hands. Consider a CBD hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable or as an added protection after washing.

We hope you won’t let the dwindling supplies of hand sanitizer in stores stop you from making your own or ordering a CBD hand sanitizer online.

  1. Such a great webpage!  Not to mention I’ve never seen a recipe for hand sanitizer before.  I have bookmarked this page and will be making my own sanitizer from now on.  I’m also going to check out the CBD sanitizer.  Looks like a great product to sanitize and to get your daily dose of CBD.  Thanks so much!

  2. It’s interesting to know that it is believed that CBD can aid a sanitizer to penetrate the skin and kill more bacteria. Because of the looming pandemic, it wouldn’t hurt to try out hemp seed oil hand sanitizer. I have been looking for more ways to protect myself from getting the coronavirus because I am immune-compromised. With that in mind, I will try to find a store downtown or online that sells CBD hand sanitizer. Thanks!

    • Hi Levi,

Yes, CBD sanitizers have been on the rise and several companies are now providing them along with some good quality masks. I am not sure which country you are in but this link provides many companies to check out. We must do everything we can to protect ourselves, especially if you are immune-compromised.
